CGI-BIN and site speed

I'm a little un happy with the performance of our site, this is due to the speed of the CGI-BIN.

Normal browsing is spot on but as soon as a request is made through CGI it's a different mater.

Is there a default list of updates versions and requirements that an Actinic Ver7 site should have for the CGI-BIN that could enhanse performance?

This http://www.actinic.co.uk/support/hosting.htm is the basic hosting requirements, with technical documents provided at http://www.actinic.co.uk/support/downloads.htm#tech, which if you are hosting yourself then would be good to go through, or if you are hosted by others, then (obviously dont try and tell them what to do), but suggest that your cgi-bin is slow and as you are on Actinic, they help with this really useful guide
