can't update or receive orders - no error

i have a customer who claims his actinic (v7.0.1) will not download orders, or update the site - even though his internet connection is ok. He tells me there are no error messages at all!

    Here's the customer's message:

Sorry! There is no error message. My internet connection is OK.

Yes I did update last night, but can't do it today. When I try to
download orders or update the site, just nothing happens.

I have tried re-booting the computer, but still nothing. Could something
have happened during last night's update?

Before i travel over to see him, has anyone heard of this happening. Would a refresh be the way to sort this out (this will take him a long time as huge catalogue)

    Cheers,

    Phil

I have downloaded his orders today, and get the dialog message...

Warning: soem files on the web site appear to have been changed since atinic last uploaded them. The changes may be an attempt to compromise the site. These files will be completely refreshed the next time you upload your catalog. Please upload your Actinic as soon as this download is complete and carefully examine the details of any orders retrieved in this download. The changed files are: oldtext.fil, oldprice.fil, oldprod.fil, oldaccount.fil, oldbuyer.fil, oldaddress.fil

The customer is says that he can't upload or download orders, and now gets no error message (hence he gave me permission to download them myself). He is going to try refresh later. Should this fix the prob? I am not sure what the files above represent, or how they may have been changed.

just spoken to the customer - he can't refresh the site. I could travel over to customer and export snapshot (assuming corrupt/changed files no on local machine), and reimport and then try refresh? Should i take this to support?

      Cheers,

      Phil

        Hi Phil

The first thing i would try, would be to ftp to this website, and go to the /acatalog/ folder. Simply here delete all .cat and .fil files. Once you have done this, go to his site1 folder and do the same (delete .cat and .fil).

Now just go to "Web | Refresh Website"

        See if this works

        Kind Regards

          Hi All,
Just wanted to let you know that is exactly what has been happening to my site. Each time I would do an update to the live site I would get that exact same error, however the site seemed to worked fine after the update ran. I still received that error each time but it doesn't seem to effect anything. Now all of a sudden the update, or the Web Refresh doesn't work at all! What the heck is going on?

Phil - Ask your customer if when he exits Actinic does he get a "bong" sound like a program crashed, you know the one in the windows sounds when you get an error on something. If he does, then ask him to click on the update arrow and while it is sitting there "doing nothing" tell him to hit enter and see if he gets the same error message that I do when I hit enter. That error message simply says "Incorrect Parameter"

I have no clue what is causing this and I was just about to enter a request here when I read your message. HELP!

This is the error message that comes up when I hit enter after clicking on the update arrow.

I have tested my network settings about 5 times and always get a successful email saying that the network settings are correct. I have rebooted several times, and I have reset my network settings via the Wizard three different times to no avail.

          Thanks

            Hi Albert

Have you tried what i have suggested in response to Phil thread?, deleting the .cat and .fil files on the server, as well as on the pc

              Hi Nadeem,
No I haven't, but I will do that right now and give it whirl. Just afraid of doing that, but I will back up first.

                Nadeem,
Just tried what you suggested and I still have an hour glass on Actinic, doesn't show me that it is doing anything, just sitting there with an hour glass. There is no network traffic, and no *.fil's were created either on the server or the PC...

                  Hi there

I would suggest in registering a support query with our email support - http://www.actinic.co.uk/support/register.htm

I just wonder if the clocks going back has affected your servers in some case. Especially if it has been working fine last week

                  Kind Regards

                    Hi Nadeem,

I checked the clocks on the server using the Help|Troubleshooting Screens and the clocks look fine, maybe it is because President Bush was re-elected , I still get the "bong" when I exit the program, sorta like something was waiting for my response and it crashed when I just exited the software.

                    Thanks

                      Hi there

This would need someone to have a look into your database, so i would suggest in registering a support query at: http://www.actinic.co.uk/support/register.htm. Especially with the incorrect parameter message.

Can i ask a simple question

are all you people running XP
if so have you updated to the new SP2

i have nothing but problems with the latest MS release.

I can connect to the internet fine through my broadband, but try and get email, ftp or upload my site no go.

I have found the only way is to completely disable the MS firewall and restart my pc a number of times. You may also find that you need to change you DNS numbers from obtain automatically to an assigned one. to get the correct numbers you will need to contact you broadband or dial up company. i have some that you can try if you wish. To change these numbers you need to go into you connection set up, networking, select tcp/ip protocal and enter the numbers in the DNS box

                        or try these numbers
                        213.120.62.103
                        213.120.62.104

                        195.192.195.94
                        195.192.195.95

                        193.38.113.3
                        194.117.157.4

Its worth a try - some strange things happening out there

                        Cheers

I have two customers experiencing problems with my multiuser order processing system on machines with sp2, the key problems seems to be that you cannot access an mdb file on a shared drive once sp2 has been installed (in their cases anyway), you can open or copy an html file for example but not an mdb file. They have tried to disable the firewall but don't seem to be able to find it.

                            Darren,

If there's a problem with the MS firewall enabled, but everything works with it disabled, then I'd disable it and go with something else.

I use the free version of Zonealarm and XP SP2 will happily let you use that rather than it's own firewall. In three years of use I haven't had a single problem with Zonealarm so I'd highly recommend it.

Yes I am running XP Pro with SP2 installed. I haven't had any trouble with it what so ever. I am not using the Windows Firewall I am using Norton Internet Security 2004 Pro and it works fantastic. If you are using another firewall application with Windows XP SP2 then you should not only disable the firewall but also tick the box that states "I have a firewall solution that I will monitor myself" this will prevent the Windows firewall from even attempting to check the status of the firewall status or notifying you that there is none present. You should tick this option on both the Firewall, and AntiVirus if you are using separate applications from Windows.

The path to the tick is Control Panel|Security Center|Firewall Recommendations and at the bottom you will see the check-box. The same is true for the Virus protection. Control Panel|Security Center|Virus Protection.

If you are having issues with SP2, you should then check the author of your firewall software and/or virus software to see if they have any known issues with SP2. This is true with all software that you have installed, almost every piece of software I own has a link in their support section relative to SP2 and what effect if any it has on their product. Chances are you are going to find remedies for the issues you are having. Example: Even my drivers for my video card had to be upgraded because the code that was being sent from the driver to the card was being looked at as suspect when I installed SP2, however after updating to the newest drivers the problem disappeared. I even had to upgrade the BIOS Code because there was an issue with the code that was being sent from the BIOS to the controllers, and the processor. Gentle(men/women) Please check everything that you have for known issues hardware and software drivers. I think that you will find that there are a lot of issues with SP2 that can be solved just by upgrading to the latest driver software or latest releases of software that you have.

Hope this helps in some small way.
