how do i delete 'duplicate products'?

Hi All,
I can't work out how to delete (as in completely remove) duplicate products. selecting 'delete' only puts a red cross over the product, but I want it gone (as in totaly gone). Selecting 'cut' rather than delete does nothing at all.
