Account without Login Required?

Maybe this is a bit of a strange request, but we would like to give an automatic discount to all customers being referred from another site. We could set up an account (with discount price schedule) to do this, but this would mean the customers having to enter a username and password which is fiddly. Is there a way to set up an account so that they can click on one link to go straight into the account and get the preferential prices?

Alternatively can anyone suggest an alternative way of achieving the same ends?

I'm afraid with actinic, you would need to supply a username and password. There is no way you can pass on the parameters using the address bar.

With reference to your issue, i think the only way, especially if its just referrer customer you want a discount on, is to set up a generic customer account.

This is a shame because I feel that people will lose interest if they have to enter a login and password. Surely I cant be the first person who has ever wanted to do something like this? Is it something which could be added to a wish list for the future?

Not at all! I for one would love to see this - currently all I can do is embed a 'code' on the end of a URL, give that to the site we want to give the discount, then customers clicking that link buy their goods as normal. The embedded code is passed to Order Manager and when processing the order we have to look under the 'misc' tab for the code - if its there we process the order with the % discount.

This works, but the customer doesn't see their discount when buying, and it can result in a lot of questions relating to that.

V7 has this as standard, you can create a discount, give it a code and if the user clicks on a generated URL that includes the code or enters the code on the site, they get the discount you have defined.
