    External linking and product reference

    Hi,

Is there any way to link to a Query in Access rather than a Table?

At the moment our product references are generated by joining some characters to an Auto-generated product ID followed by a 2-digit reference number. Obviously it is a good idea to have Access generate the ID numbers, but the 2-digit reference on the end is used to help us identify the supplier of the product.

The only solution I can think of is to have a separate text field and manually type the whole product reference in.

The only place we need to see these "supplier codes" is when we receive the orders - so we know which shelf they are on.

    Thanks

    Hi there

I'm afraid with External linking, you can only link to a table, not a query. The external linking looks at the heading of the table i'm afraid

    Kind Regards

      Hello

Could you use a Make Table query in Access?

You would set up your query, run it to create a table (call it say 'Copy Of Products') and then link to that?

You'd need to drop the table each time you re-created it to keep it current but surely better than typing them all. Ulimately it could be automated using Macros.
