Temporary Message to shoppers

Is it possible to add a temporary message to the checkout stage?

I would like to add a brief message about delivery times over christmas etc and thought this would be fairly useful.

Does this facility exist?

if you want the message in the checkout you will have to edit ACT_ORDERxx.html - there are 5 of them, one for each page of the checkout

If you look in Design / Options / Layouts - you may find you're using a different Primary Template for the checkout. You could edit that to put the message in there. Or, if using the same template throughout, copy it to a new name, then edit and use that instead.

Also in Design / Options / Shop Defaults are Page Header / Footer fields where you can quickly put a message that will appear on every page.
