    Emails problems

    Hi -

I am having great problems sending emails to customers, when I try to send a email the following message appears in a dialog box saying:

Failed to communicate with the SMTP server.

    Possible Cause:
    1. Network transmission problems.
    2. Could have Changed the SMTP Server settings, but not Uploaded after that.

    Recommendation:
    1. Retry
    2. Upload the Site First, if you have changed the SMTP Server Settings.

    Resolution:
If retry fails, check your SMTP settings
    or contact your ISP.

As anybody got any ideas what I need to do to sort this problem out?

Thanking you in advance for you help!!!

Go to Advanced / Network Setup and run the Test that's there and report what happens.

Also tell us if it used to work before, whether you've changed anything recently, whether you're still getting confirmation emails, etc.

      email problems

      Hi -

Thank you for your reply, I have just done what you have asked and this is the test results:

      Actinic Mail Test completed successfully
      server: passed
      connection: passed
      sockets: passed
      communications: passed
      authorisation: passed
      message: -

I don't know at what point its started to do this? It works sometimes but more but 99% of the time not.

I have just discovered as well that automatic replies doesn't work either ask tried buying something from the site myself and I didn't get a email saying my order is being processed.

I hope you can help and thanks for your time.

      Kind Regards

May or may not help but I was carrying out some changes on page titles in version 5 which for some reason upset the mail. Had you made any changes just prior to this occuring?

Hmmm... That test looks loke it COULD find your SMTP server. Did you get the email that the test sends out (back to site owners address)?

Also tell us who your hosting people are as there may be many here using them?

            email problems

            Hi -

The ISP which I am using is NTL but was thinking about changing if you know any good ISP I could use please let me know?

We are not sure how long this has not been working correctly as I am not a developer its hard to know if the software is fully working correctly.

            Kind Regards

You should be using your web hosts smtp server. Have you set up actinic for that (will work) or your ISP (won't work) ?

                  email problems

                  Hi Mike,

I have emails coming through ok, the email on the actinic network setting is setup for emails to come through has orders@wizzbitz.com but will not send, but when I do the test it show everything is working fine.

You could send me a email through orders@wizzbitz.com I would get it but it would not let me reply to youi through Actinic?

                  Kind Regards
