Catalog question PR Ranking Two Cats in the Same domain

Is it possible to have two catalogs in the same domain?

Both would have there own domain names but a redirect from one of the domain names would take you to a sub folder under the main high ranking pr site.

The reason for this is one of my sites has a high pr ranking and therefore I was thinking of building a second site and inhertiting the pr ranking. This would be done by putting the second site in a subfolder under the high pr domain. Google would see the additional catalog / site as part of the high pr domain.

I know that the second site wouldnt get its own pr ranking, this is a short term fix to generate some cash without having to wait for the pr ranking to build. At the moment if i list anything in google its cached very quickly and my site has pr ranking of 5.

I believe there would be issues with cgi scripts?

    Any ideas?

There's nothing to stop you having a second site living in a sub-directory of your main one. E.g. www.mymainsite.com/subsite/ (where there's an index.html and an acatalog directory).

All you have to do is make new network settings for the second site that locates it in subsite and make sure it uses a different CGI-ID number (probably 2) than the main site.

You scripts share the same cgi-bin directory but since the cgi-id is part of the script filenames, it keeps these files seperate.

It's best to set up these settings for the sub-site manually via Advanced / Network Setup.

No changes are needed to your main sites settings.

        Hello,

As the two catalogs share the one CGI-BIN folder - would this work if one of the catalogs is using an Actinic Shared SSL could both catalogs share this when submitting secure Credit Card Payments?

          Hi Leon

Yes both Catalog to use Actinic SSL, however you would need to purchase an additional Actinic SSL licence. It is one SSL per Catalog Shop. For more information contact Sales on 0845 129 4800.

          Kind Regards

If I had www.somedomain.co.uk/subfolder/ basically so i can make two seperate catalogs as i got an unweildly amount of data for one site to upload and it grinds to a halt, would the customer be able to purchase between the two catalogs and when they get to checkout pay for the stuff in one checkout.? or would the two shopping carts be seperate?

            thanks

You don't need SSL for the checkout process at all. There are a few merchants who decide to use SSL on the address entry pages but it's not needed.

Customers are passed to the secure server of the PSP to enter card details and confirm payments.

If you are collecting credit card details for offline payment processing yourself then you need to read up of PCI DSS.

                1. Try V11. Actinic has been focusing on performance improvements recently and this might solve your problem.

                2. If you have two catalogs they operate independently. i.e. separate carts, checkout, etc.

PS. I clearly missed this thread when it started 6 years ago. A sub-directory does not inherit any PR from being on the same domain, it's purely passed via the linking structure. i.e. the original question was based on an incorrect assumption.
