Google hints at it at http://toolbar.google.com/privacy.html and I found this help at http://www.google.com/support/toolba...topic=0&type=f

The Google toolbar does report page usage to its servers. I have to believe that this data is used in their secret algorithm. That kind of data is too valuable not to be used. I cannot prove it.

      I just found this http://www.websitetrafficbuilders.co...le_toolbar.htm

There is also this concern: http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,4149,904096,00.asp

There is a lot of talk about PageRank and Google's search, but Google is not saying what is true.

It's a nice theory anyway Bob.

While it's true that google may track what pages are being viewed when pagerank is enabled on the toolbar and they may use this information in deciding ranking, it would fly in the face of all known evidence to suggest that pagerank is based on page views rather than links.

You can of course believe what you choose, but there's a whole world of people out there that will take some convincing.

          Google ranking

Olderscot what away to celebrate the New Year by us agreeing on something .

Then main problem with the that theory Bob is if I wanted to increase my page rank I would simply spend an hour or so every day with as many friends as I could find and click my site to boost my page ranking.

OK, you guys win. I asked in the searchenginewatch.com forum and got one reply that said that they don't use this data for ranking. There is still much debate about how much PageRank matters, but my mini-servey for myself and my competitors in Google suggest it does matter.

              Search engines

Bob it’s not about who wins or whose wrong that’s the beauty of forums like this is that you debate and share knowledge. I for example am convinced that the age of a site matters but have no evidence to prove it.

this is simply untrue, the keyword meta tag is not read by 99.9% of SEs. the description can be used but is of little value on its own
