would new version solve my problems

Norman pointed out that my actinic catalouge is a bit of a hopeless case with all the faults it has at present.
If i bought a new version 7 (i use 6) would this solve the problems or would i just have the problems after importing my snapshot in the new software?

    Thanks

    Paul

I have answered this for you in one of your other threads.

I'm afriad the effect of all your posts is that I cannot work out what the problems are that you are still having with your site. I think your problems are:

      - 'Invalid filename' error when printing - http://community.actinic.com/showthread.php?t=11591
      - Offline page preview not working - http://community.actinic.com/showthread.php?t=11536
      - Error message when you try and start the navigator - http://community.actinic.com/showthread.php?t=11592
      - '4' appearing in quantity field for products - http://community.actinic.com/showthread.php?t=11604

Could you please confirm that these are still the errors you are getting?

With regards to what Norman has said, he is right in that there are very odd problems with your data which an upgrade is unlikely to fix. My suggestion is to register an email support query at http://www.actinic.co.uk/support/register.htm. Someone can then take a look at your database and see what's going on.

You can download Actinic 7 and use it for 30 days free trial. Do this (preferably on a clean system) and you'll be able to find out, at no cost, whether you can fix your problems this way.

You can also run V7 in test mode where it uploads to a different place on your server (leaving your existing site limping along).

However I'd recommend testing on a trial server (Actinic can provide one) until you are sure all is OK.

              Hi Norman
This is the only system i have.

Can i download trial on this system as a stand alone trial, it wont try to upgrade my 6 will it?

You can run V7 and V6 independently. When installing V7 you are given the option to install a new site or upgrade an existing one. Even if you upgrade you won't lose your old site - it will be left untouched.

However can you really be sure that you have no other problems in your operating system or PC and that it's only Actinic 6 that's wrong?

If not, it would be much better to beg, borrow, or buy a second PC as you've just painfully found out what happens if you keep all your eggs in one basket.

You should proceed very cautiously while you still have some useful data and a semi-working site.

These forums are littered with posts of the "My one and only system has died - I've never made any back-ups - what do I do?", and the answer is, unfortunately, start from scratch again.

                  Ok thanks Norman
I have my laptop so when i get back the data from my external drive i will upload it with new version 7 and see what happens.

Cant upload at present beacuse on upload it asks for the image files that are not there (only started doing that on last upload)

                  Thanks again

Go to your website. Right click on every image and select "Save Image" then save them to C:\program files\actinic ecommerce v6\sites\site1\

Voila. All your missing images recovered.
                    Cheers!

But do it using Firefox as Internet Explorer insists on saving JPG images as .jpeg instead of the (more likely) .jpg you saved them as.

I already suggested that Paul FTP into his site and download EVRYTHING to somewhere safe in case one of his subsequent updates (which he really shouldn't be doing as his system is so unreliable) messes things totally.
