New Drillpine Addon - Automatic Currency Converter

Automatic Currency Converter on Product Prices. Add an automatic price converter button to your products.

This uses Textor cconv.textor.com code, modified to automatically pass the product price and remember the customers currency.

Textor provide over 50 exchange rates, kept up-to-date on a daily basis.

    Details on www.drillpine.biz

I've also done a patch that adds the Product Price and Curreny Converter to the Extended Info Popup pages.

Please respect the "Donationware" status of these patches as this one was a lot of work.

I've now managed to fully integrate the Textor code into Actinic. It should allow you to display the site in a main currency as normal, and, if the customer chooses, switch on-the-fly to displaying prices in one of about 50 other currencies, where the exchange rate is maintained in real-time.

See http://www.drillpine.biz/v7multipric..._Products.html where the products should display as normal, then click the price converter link and you can turn on an additional currency.

This is a major amount of work, so I'll probably not be posting it on my Donationware pages, but making it a paid for product.

      Hi.
Can you tell me what effect this will have on the size of the page ?
I dont want to add too much to the size of my pages as they arent the quickest loading as it is for dialup users but im really interested in the currency converter and would definitely pay for the privelege.

It adds about 500 bytes per page + 75 bytes per product.

There's also an included 1.4K JavaScript support file but this identical on every page so should only need downloaded once and will be in the browsers cache for the rest of the session.

          One last question :

On the example site you have, is it not possible to make the currency change automatic when clicking on the flag ? The problem being is it took me 10-15 seconds to work out what i was supposed to do when i clicked on the flag and i wouldn't want to add anything to my site that was going to confuse them.

For me I only need a few currencies anyway so i wouldn't have flags all over the place.

Norman that looks like a great addition. Is it easy to install/much modification required?

              Norman,

              Brilliant piece of work!

I would undoubtedly be interested in purchasing and would prefer to pay via invoice. Perhaps you could let me have some details, please.

The popup isn't the only way it can be done. You can also have the converter on a chosen product or brochure page. There's one already on the demo site home page - see http://www.drillpine.biz/v7multiprice/index.html.

To make it a little more user-friendly the popup now auto-closes after the customer changes currency, so they really do know that something has happened.

The popup is, however, most efficient as it only comes into play whan needed. If you displayed the converter on every page that would be very inefficient as it would mean loading the entire converter code each time.

The flag icon is just something I dummied up. You can use anything as the link to the popup and add some informative text to the popup if you like.

It's not too much. One replacement ActinicOrder.pm and Act_ProductPrice.html
and a few additional files to go into Site1. You also have to manually add a few lines to Act_Primary.html (and any other Primary Templates) you use. It takes me about 3 minutes to do the whole thing.

Norman I was just testing your demo and I noticed something during the checkout, it shows the chosen currency with a $ sign - also on the left hand menu bar summary. Can this show letters instead like EUR, USD etc or can it just be removed and leave the brackets?

                  Thanks

TDW. I'm changing things a bit and the site was probably broken for a while. Should be OK now. Best refresh the page as you may have a bad one in the cache.

The 3 letter code should be used throughout for the selected alternate currency.

I was adding a feature that removes the penny bit if the exchange rate is for one of those currencies that are zillions to the £ $ €, etc.

                      Automatic Currency Converter

                      Hi Norman,
I am trying to set up your Automatic Currency Converter on Prices on this site, http://www.picnic.ie/acatalog/Avoca_Sligo_Urn.html and it seemed to be working fine, but I've made a lot of changes to the site and something must have gone wrong as now it gives a cgi error instead of bringing the product page up again.

Also the convertor works ok with products under $1,000 but if you look at a more expensive product for example http://www.picnic.ie/acatalog/Grafton.html it gives the worng price in the convertor?

                      Regards,
                      Breda

When I look in your pages i see a buttin marked Check Currency. When I look in the source I see that this button is calling a JavaScript routine called pricepopup.

This isn't part of NorPrice. NorPrice uses a routine called norpricepopup to open the popup page.

Could you be calling some older code?

Also, I have a support forum for NorPrice on www.drillpine.biz/forums - it may be better to post there.

                          Hi Norman,
I got the code for this on your web site:
                          http://www.drillpine.biz/actinicstuff/index.html
                          Download TextorPriceConversionOnProductPrice.txt for the patch.
I changed the input type to a button.
I'll post onto the other forum.
                          Regards

I get you now. You're not using NorPrice (this topic) at all. You're using another patch I posted a while ago.

See you on the other forum.

PS I'm very busy today so it may be late tonight before I can reply.

are people using this piece of software successfully? I have a lot of non-UK customers so am interested in having a currency converter on my site.

As an alternative, I came across this one the other day:

                              http://www.xe.com/ecc/shoppers/

Is anyone using this one successfully?
