Section background

I've changed the Act_sectionline template so my catalog displays the sections as thumbnails (as per the advanced user guide), this is fine but I want them to all to appear in a single table cell so I can display a backgound. If I amend Act_SectionLine.html then the image appears each time a product is displayed, I want to appear once.

How, or which template, do I need to change to get this to work.
