URGENT: Error installing the new QB Link 1.4

I've been working with Brian, but so far I've not been able to install the new QB Link 1.4. I'm hoping someone here can help.

When I try to install using QBLinkU-EJJA.exe, I get an error telling me to run setup.exe. If I run the setup.exe, I get the same error.

Here's the funny part. If QBInstaller.exe (version 1.2) is in the same directory as QBLinkU-EJJA.exe, I get a successful completion when I run QBLinkU-EJJA.exe. However, it actually installs verion 1.2.

If QBInstaller.exe version 1.2 is NOT in the directory when I execute QBLinkU-EJJA.exe, I get the error to run setup.exe.

All this makes me think that the QBLinkU-EJJA.exe does not actually extract as it should -- otherwise I would expect a new version of QBInstaller.exe.

I hope this makes sense. This has become a very critical issue for me, because I must upgrade to Quickbooks 2005 ASAP for a variety of reasons. Although QB Link 1.2 works for me now with QB 2002, I don't know if this works with QB 2005. I'm also anxious to upgrade to Actinic version 7, although that isn't as urgent as the Quickbooks upgrade.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Could you please try downloading QuickBooks Link 1.4 again. You will get a file called 'QuickBooksTranslator.exe' this time, which should install without errors.

I'm still getting an error. I saved the file to C:\temp\qblink4.1\ on my PC. Then double-clicked the file QuickBooksTranslator.exe. It get an error that tells me to run c:\temp\qblink4.1\setup.exe.

So I moved the file to my Actinic setup directory (c:\temp\actinic\), deleted the QBInstaller.exe (which is version 2.1). If I run QuickBooksTranslator.exe, I still get the error telling me to run setup.exe. If I try to run setup, it tells me that QBInstaller.exe can not be found.

What next? I SOOOOO want to get this installed.

        Hi Pat

On a clean machine I installed Actinic 6.1.5 without Actinic Link for QuickBooks, and I got the exact same error message as you when I tried to install the new 1.4 QuickBooksTranslator.exe.

Then I installed Actinic Link for QuickBooks 1.2.1 (should be on your v6 installation CD - check if the file is dated April 2003) just from the standalone exe file and that installed fine. I licensed that and then ran the 1.4 QuickBooksTranslator.exe again and it worked fine.

Could you try that for me please?

Did you check the version.ini file after it installed to see if the right version was installed? When I do what you suggest, it completes installation without an error. BUT -- I have 1.2 installed, and not 1.4.

I'm feeling a bit stuck in the middle right now. I just tried to export some orders into Quickbook and got an error the the executable couldn't be found. So I searched, and found another with a slightly different name -- and a newer date. The new 1.4 version?? Updated to use this version, then tried again. This received an error that I have an incompatible Quickbooks version.

This makes me wonder if maybe the new version of QBLink was in fact installed, but the version.ini file was not updated.

Does this mean that QB 1.4 was installed, but just doesn't work with QB 2005. If that is the case, then all I need to do is install my copy of QB 2005. Or, is this a totally different problem that will be complicated by installing QB 2005?

I'm going to go with the new version of QB 2005 and hope for the best!

HELP! I'm stuck, and now this is really, really critical.

I upgraded to QB 2005. When I try to export orders from Actinic to QB2005, it runs through the loading csv files, then a box pops up that says "File not Found", but no file name is given. I click that, and I get a box that says "Imcompatible version of Quickbooks".

I'm totally stuck, business is pretty much shut down if I can't move the orders. I need fast help.

I have QB 1.4 installed now, but I'm getting an error when I try to export: export.mdb is missing.

                  BUT -- I have 1.2 installed, and not 1.4.
In my playing with Actinic Link this morning I noticed that 1.4 does not seem to load a new 'version.ini' file. The way to check that you have the right version is to right-click on the 'ActToQB.exe' executable file and go to 'Properties' and then go to 'Version'. This will say whether you have got 1.4 or not.

Check within the C:\Program Files\Actinic Link' folder. What folders are in there? If there is more than one, only one of them will be the correct one - the one with the Actinic Link 1.4 files in. Make sure that this the the 'Executable to run after export' which Actinic is connected to. Also make sure your orders are exporting to the 'Datafiles\Site1' folder within the correct Actinic Link folder.

Thanks, Chris. I do have 1.4 installed, and that is a huge step forward. QB2005 is also installed. We're making progress. But right now I'm getting export.mdb missing. Suggestions?

Here is a bit more info:

I have a folder called "ACTINI~3" which was just installed w/ QBLink 1.4. The exectuble is down under this folder.

But after running the link to export orders, I under up with another directory structure called "Actinic Link", with subfolders under it.

So I have some settings messed up somewhere. I can't find where this is happening, though.

Hmmm - I definitely get 'Export.mdb' installed on my test PC. Try doing a re-install of Link (don't uninstall first - just install over the top).

Where has Link installed? Is it in a folder called 'QBooks' within 'Program Files' or is it elsewhere?

I have reinstalled, and still have the problem.

                          It is installed in:

                          c:\Program Files\ACTINI~3\QUICKB~1

A subdirectory under that called docs was also created with the help in it. But no .mdb file anywhere within this structure.

                            Hmmm
                            c:\Program Files\ACTINI~3\QUICKB~1
This does not look right to me. It should be something like:
                            c:\Program Files\Actinic Link\QuickBooks2003
                            What is your operating system?

Could I also ask you to have a quick look in your registry. Go to 'Start | Run' and type 'regedit'.

Now use the folders on the left to browse to:
                            HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Actinic\AccountsInterface\ActLinkForQBooks\Export

Now look in the area to the right. What do you have for 'Application Path' and 'DBPath' (you only get these once you have started Actinic Link for the first time).

My operating system is Windows XP home edition.

                              Here are the values:

                              Application Path: C:\Program Files\ACTINI~3\QUICKB~1\

                              DBPath: C:\Program Files\ACTINI~3\QUICKB~1\

If you don't mind, would you let me know when you quit for the evening, so I'll know not to be watching this space until tomorrow. Although I really hope we get this working before you go, but it must be close to quitting time in the UK.
