I will be leaving the office in about 5 mins, but I have asked for help from Brian Johnson at Sure Solutions who, as well as being a QuickBooks expert, also will be around for another 5 hours or so (as long as he is in the office today).

I think what has happened is that the application has installed in C:\Program Files\ACTINI~3\QUICKB~1\ but when it upgraded your Export.mdb, it could not work out where to put this file so it was left out of the installation. I would first of all try a search on your PC to see whether Export.mdb is anywhere. If it is on the PC somewhere else, try copying it into:

    C:\Program Files\ACTINI~3\QUICKB~1\

This may well do it (although you need to change the 'Business Settings' in Actinic to ensure you export the csv files to this new directory).

    C:\Program Files\ACTINI~3\QUICKB~1\Datafiles\Site1

But if this was happening on my PC, here is what I would do (basically, nuke the entire Actinic Link installation and start again)
    1. Go to 'Add/Remove Programs' in Control Panel and remove Actinic Link for QuickBooks.
    2. Remove both the 'Actinic Link' and 'ACTINI~3' directories from your PC.
    3. Enter the registry (regedit) and go to 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Actinic\AccountsInterface'
    4. Right-click on the 'ActLinkForQBooks' folder in the tree (if it is there) and select 'Delete'. Please be ever so careful when you do this!
    5. Also, go to 'HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\VB and VBA Program Settings' and remove any folders that say 'ActLinkForQBooks'Please be ever so careful when you do this!
    6. Next (and this is going to sound strange) download and install a trial version of Actinic v7 from www.actinic.com. You don't need to upgrade your v6 site - v7 will just install alongside v6 without affecting it. Then just start it, and close it. This will mean that the 1.4 QuickBooksTranslator.exe can be run without installing the old version first.
    7. Install Actinic Link for QuickBooks v1.4 from the QuickBooksTranslator.exe file. Ensure that it installs into a normal-looking directory on your PC (i.e. not ACTINI~3 or whatever).
The big issue is that you are going to have to re-enter your profile settings into Actinic Link, and you are going to have to edit your Actinic Business 'Business Settings' to point to the new installation directory. This is all explained in the help.

It's rather drastic - but I'm afraid I am pretty much out of ideas.

Thanks, Chris. I did find the export.mdb earlier this morning, and copied it to the directory. But that didn't work. I don't mind nuking and starting over with just the link. I've done it a million times the last two months. As long as it isn't Actinic, I'm okay. So I'll print your suggestions, and work through each step.

Thanks for everything. Hopefully tomorrow morning when you get in, this will all be resolved.

        Hopefully -

Have you dealt with Brian at Sure Solutions before? If you would rather have a real person talk you through this then I could get in contact with them and see what we can sort out. Anyway, I'm off now. Good luck!

Oops - just saw this. Yes, Brian is very helpful, and I've worked with him many times. But

          IT WORKS!

Thanks for everything. QB2005 is installed and works, QB Link 1.4 is installed and works. As soon as I build up more courage again, I'll tackle Actinic 7.

          Thanks for everything.

            Brilliant news! I'm so pleased!

Apologies for the amount of hassle this was - having to install v7 in order to install a link for v6 is rather... esoteric to say the least. I have fed all this back to the development team and it should not happen again.
