Actinic generating HUGE filenames for html docs

Dear al, how can I prevent Actinic from generating massive filenames which are illegally long for example it made this...


The_Coniston_Book_Storage_Range___Infant_Junior.html

Tha file name is too long for me to download via dreamweaver ftp for further edits to the page code - can I prevent this?

AND if i amend the html names to something more suitable, will actinic auto-update my links throughout the site to my new naming conventions?

Actinic will update all the links within its own software - ie, all pages that end up in the /acatalog/ directory when it uploads and also in its own CGI files.

It won't do any that you put outside of this directory.

Personally I change all the page names to lower case every time a new section is created.

when adding/editing products and sections there is an option within the section dialog box and product dialog box which allows you to type in your own "Page Name" use this and actinic will not generate its own page names

Once you understand how Actinic creates the page name ie it basically strings together the parts of section name, its easy to take pre-emptive action.

So when creating a section you wish to title "The Coniston Book Storage Range Infant Junior", start by calling it something more abbreviated eg:
"Coniston Infant Junior".

Actinic will than create the page name as "Coniston_Infant_Junior.html".

As previously suggested, you may want to go one step further and use only lower case to start, as it creates a more conventional page name.

Avoid extra spaces and underscores, as the seperate parts will be joined with underscores replacing the spaces, and multiple consequetive underscores
are more difficult to interpret.

Once the section and page name have been created you can then go ahead and edit the section name to how you prefer it to look , and the page name will remain as "Coniston_Infant_Junior.html"

If you've already created the section, you can always edit the page name yourself as Jo suggests.
