Just to add to this, 2 sites I'm running with the same host are v6.1.5 and work with shared SSL, both work fine.

The site that's giving me bother is on the same server with shared SSL and is a v7 site. I'm wondering if it's just a coincidence?!

      Hi there,

This really needs to be investigated. I would suggest in registering an email support ticket on http://www.actinic.co.uk/support/register.htm. If you have Actinic cover then you could just contact Support on 0845 129 4848. They will need to investigate this issue.

      Kind regards

        Hi Nadeem

Sorry I resolved this late last Friday afternoon and forgot to let the forum know I'd fixed it.

I'm embarassed to say that it was nothing to do with Actinic or the hosting company, and everything to do with something I'd done. I discovered the cause of the problem by accident, while making amendments to a primary template. I'm really quite surprised the page rendered at all in Netscape or Firefox...how things have changed!

        Many thanks

        Anthony

              Hi Gary

It’s painfully embarrassing to admit this in public, but I’d somehow deleted the body tag! The page still rendered fine in IE, NS, Firefox, Mac and PC, so I didn’t spot the problem. I’d also tested my templates to ensure the HTML complied with W3C 4.01, so I must have made the deletion at a later stage of the build.

Has anyone got any more advice regarding a general script error (see below) that is appearing during the checkout procedure?
We are receiving orders but this week have had 3 people call to say they are having problems with our website but what we are really concerned about is the people that don't call and look elsewhere !

                Any help would be appreciated

                Thanks,

                Dave

                  Hmm.

I get the checkout problem using IE at the point where you go on from the location settings for Invoice & Delivery set=United Kingdom.

this also the point where you switch to https at https://clarahost.clara.net/www.ukto...in/os000001.pl

I would think that this is what Chris suggested where your domain is changing to clara.net and therefor IE is no longer sending the cookie as it only lets the site that sets the cookie see it.

I've tried with different privacy settings but it doesn't make any difference. All I can suggest is that you get your own SSL certificate and see if that fixes it.

                  Mike

                    Thanks Mike,

Why does it work for some people and not others ?

Ok. here's what I can see.

Firs off, for the checkout to work it looks as if it's creating two cookies on my PC. The first cart one from your domain and another one when you switch to the SSL checkout from clara.net.

With privacy set to medium-high (my standard setting) I can find two ways of checking out. One works, the other doesn't (at least until the first way has created the calara.net cookie).

                      1. What works.

Put something in the cart, return to the home page (or probably any other page). Click on the cart button, checkout from the cart. Note that going this way, the first stage of the checkout is via SSL.

                      2. What doesn't work.

Put something in the cart, return to the home page (or proabably any other page). Click on the checkout button. This then goes to the first stage of the checkout (not in SSL). Click next -> Get the "general script error - cookie expired" message.

Remember after trying the first option that you have to delete the clara.net cookie, or else everything works fine.

I don't know why one way works and not the next, but if you can make the second 'checkout' button do the same as the one from the cart then you should be OK.

                      Mike
