    Import causes duplicate products

In view of the vast number of items appearing in the catalog, I have imported them from a csv created in MS Excel.

It has become nescessary to update the list so I have done so and reimported the csv.

However, in doing so, instead of overwriting the original entries, it has generated new entries resulting in products being listed twice!

This does make a peverse amount of sense as the catalogue cannot tell the difference between old and new. I set the Catalog to generate references so there is no unique differential.

Can I fix this without deleting all the products and then reimporting them?

    Thanks for any advice

    Hi,

Does your import file contain all the information about all the products and sections or is it just a few fields or a few products?

If it does contain 'all', then you can simple import the file and select 'replace' rather than 'update'.

If not then you will have to delete the duplicate entries.

Your best bet from then would be to have the product reference numbers in your import file and untick the 'auto-generate product references' option when you import the file - you can then re-tick it once you have finished the import.

    I hope this helps.

The csv's are split by section

I will follow your advice & will post the outcome in due course...
