Laying out Products in Multiple Columns HELP1

Hi there,
The downloadable advanced guide gives you the code to set the number of columns to lay products out in. It also says you can get the most reliable code from the the actinic knowledge base but alas i canot find it anywhere! Could anyone point me in the right direction.
