Adding boxes to left/right of screen

Hi,
I am using the Smart Theme for a simple store, how can I add more boxes to the left and right of the screen as the right side expecially looks very empty and plain. I went to design/options/site defaults but it says all options have been used.

Hi

You will have to customise the Act_Primary.html and Act_BrochurePrimary.html to get the look you are after. We have the templates already made if you would like to know more contact me direct.

You will need to edit the Act_Primary.html template to add the new boxes and add some new CUSTMVAR's into Actinic

Advanced | Custom Properties | add 2 new variables such as NEWBOXTITLE and NEWBOXTEXT - this allows your to specify the box title and the text accordingly

Open the Act_Primary template - copy and paste the existing table to the new location and change the existing variables from LEFTBARTITLE to NEWBOXTITLE and LEFTBARTEXT to NEWBOXTEXT.

Note the LEFTBARTITLE may be RIGHTBARTITLE depending on which table you copied

You can then specify the titles and text accordingly in Design | Options | Design Defaults

Is there a way to increase the amount of information I can put into the side boxes? I entered a couple of URLs and it said there is a limit on space available.

glad it worked OK - you can alter the table width in the Act_Primary to the require width

I tried that, it just made the table wider. It says "The Field can only hold a certain aboumt of information and it is now full" somthing along thost lines. Is this something that I can change in Actinic or something in the database?

Not quite sure why the error - I have just added the following

into my CUSTOMVAR and it simply expanded the table to fit!

All I have is some info on payments, 3 lines and 2 image source html codes

Use more than one customvar e.g. INFO1, INFO2.

And in the Template put

CUSTOMVAR:INFO1 CUSTOMVAR:INFO2

Is this a database field size issue?

Thanks for the help, I added CUSTOMVAR:RIGHTBARTEXT01 to 05 for all the boxes (11, 21 etc) and it works fine.

Hi guys,

I followed this thread, have a similar situation but have not understood the solution.

RIGHTBOX I was to put a list of products which I want to link to them in the catalogue.

To link to the product I was going to use method on page 44 of the Advandced Users Guide for example

Arbove should not work.

However, once I have tried to enter the product and their links I run out of room as did TDW.

Suggested VARCHAR. I know how to set them up in V7 but how and where to use them I am not sure.

If anyone can help me on this I would be grateful. Thanks.

A much better solution is to put all your links in a text file in your 'Site1' folder, then in 'Design | Options | Site Defaults' enter the name of the text file in the 'Value' field in the 'Properties' grid, and ensure you select 'Use File Content'. That way, there is no limit on characters.
