meta descriptions

im just adding meta descriptions and key words to my actinic site

could anyone help me regarding the best layout

ie. should i use commas to seperate them, a space or a space and comma? and how many words should i use, i was told any more than 12 words and search engin spiders ignor them.


also could you please tell me the differance between meta descriptions and key words.

may be worth checking out http://community.actinic.com/showthread.php?t=12602 with the info from BPJSURF regarding keywords and descriptions.

The description is a sentence or 2 which appears on a search listing - it is best to make this readable to humans as well as populating it with choice keywords for the search engines.

The keywords are to give the search engine an "index" if you like of whats on the page - these are generally lists of words and phrases replicating the salient points on the page.

There is a lot of debate as to how much relevancy search engines now pay to meta tags but it is worth getting them in there all the same

in addition to Jont. Keywords should be just 6-8 per page and they should be words which are on the page
