Digital Download Uploading For no reason

    Hi and help please!

We sell audio (music) files as digital download. Just made a small change to some text and changed a couple of audio files - went to upload the file and i's now tryting to upload all our digital download files ( and they are all there already!?) Not sure why...it's not done this before. We're talking about 2.5 gigs of files so it's gonna take a while......

But worse, we have the same problem we had when we first put the site up.....in that when upoading to our FASTHOST servers - we get booted off every 15-20 mins with an error message on Actinic saying "server was reset..." Plus sometimes we get a message about permissions etc - but you just cancel out of it all and start again and off it goes uploading again....

But I'm fed up sitting here waiting...it's 23.49...

Fasthosts say absolutely no way there servers booting us off...but they always say that! Does anyone know of a way I can get this too work please!

    Thanks for any help.

    Hi there

If you get the 'server was rest' then this means the server is kicking you out for some reason. With digital download, it should only upload once, then if you have a change like add a new product which has digital download, then it will only upload that one product.
From what you have written, it seems your permission has reset. This could explain why everything is uploading, the only workaround would be to set the permission again.

What server are you on? If you are on linux, then simply set the /cgi-bin/ folder to be '755', and the /acatalog/ folder has to be '777'.

If you are on a windows server, then the permission for both the folder should be:
    Read
    Read and Execute
    Modify
    Write

The hosting company should be able to do this for you.

You could use an FTP program that will send a command every 20 seconds to keep the server connection.

What I suspect is happening is that the server is doing a NO TRANSFER timeout and dropping the connection

Update on this is that the machine we host the Actinic software had a different date than the server. It seemed to have jumped ahead a few days which is a bit weird. So the files had a different time stamp (still don;t really underdstand why they would if we hadn't changed them in any way...?) Anyway have reset the dates so that they match the server.

Problem we have now is that we only seem to be able to upload in 30 mins or so intervals before we get the dreaded "the connection with the server was reset". This may be to do with the set "timeout" on the server - I'm trying to find out from Fasthosts if there is a timeout limit set? Actinic support also suggested that mole-end.biz might have a plugin that would keep the uploading going - i.e ignore the error message and try again. (automatically) When you're trying to upload 3 gigs of digital download files it can get pretty tiresome having to reset the thing every 30 mins. You feel your life slipping away!

        Any suggestion most welcome!
