My site often reverts to pages that have since been updated - help?

    Hello
Hi - I've been having fairly persistant problems with my site showing the world an old version of either individual sections or sometimes the entire site. Its difficult to explain (without knowing the technical terms!), but since the sites inception, we have been dogged by problems such as
*The site not always showing newly uploaded sections/products.
(bizarrely, the only way we have been able to 'bump start' these new elements is by changing the product/section detail ever so slightly, i.e. changing a capital letter to a lower case letter, then uploading again. This seems to act as a cure all, as making one change like this will resolve any other products that were previously not showing.
    * The site reverting to a previously saved (older version) of itself.
Again - sometimes, the above proc seems to do the trick, when 'web refresh' or 'compact database' don't.

The only we know whether we know that this has happened is either through our routine checks or, embarrasingly, by a customer pointing it out (what I didn't mention was that sometimes, price colour options get mixed up as well, or product details seem to crossover, which is how customers know something is amiss). Either way, its not good for the credibility of my site!

It seems like a bug to me? But maybe someone else has experience of this and might be able to point out something i'm doing wrong, or might like to try?

By nature, Its a difficult one to recreate i'm afraid.

Any help would be most welcome. (I use catalog by the way)

Check that your Site 1 folder does not have HTML files that are not templates in it. This was happening with a site we recently developed and for some reason the generated site files ended up in the site folder and were uploaded at the end of the upload process overwriting the newer pages.

      Hi Gary
Thanks for that - there were some naughty non-template html files in there! All my main sections; Lounge, Kitchen, Bathroom etc had an html file in Site1, all of which showed really old versions.
I've taken them out - so hopefully, that will be an end to the matter.
      Thanks again.

Is this a bug in v7?
I've just had this problem with a client's web site and it's never happened before.
Thanks for the solution Gary, I've been at the end of my tether over it.

We have received a number of support incidents realating to this, and have even tried importing snapshots that have caused problems with customers - but have yet to be successful in recreating the error.

          Investigations are ongoing.

A friend of mine looked at my website yesterday and the home page had an image showing from almost a year ago, it was still there after cleaning out the IE cache and all oflline files. The only way to get rid of it was to hold down the control key and hit refresh.

The image was 'Logo1.gif' and although it had been completely wiped from the server a long time ago her browser was still picking it up from memory and placing it on the page, instead of using the new 'Logo1.gif'.

Good old IE cache, the bane of web designers lifes !

It's not code you need to remove but files.

If the files in your site 1 folder that end in .html dont start with Act_XXXXXX then they are probably redundant and can be deleted.

If you have had any custom templates created these might not start with Act_ so you will need to leave these.

I don't know whats causing it so if you can describe any recent changes you made or say if you imported a snapshot it might help track this down

It's the common factor in sites I have this error with so I am suspecting it

I have been having a similar problem to this. When I upload my site some pictures are missing, it appears to be random pictures, they are not pictures I have changed and it can be a couple of pictures from 2 or 3 sections, or all the pictures in one section. The only way I can get the pictures to reappear is to change the file name slightly (as Nick said lower case to capital for example) I have to do it to every picture that is affected. I have checked files in my site 1 folder. (I THINK they are all ok)

My site has been live for over a year, and it has only been the last few weeks I've been having this problem. I haven't imported a snapshot recently, or made any major changes. (I use 6.1.5 Business)

                      Hi Ralph,

I have not heard of any issues dealing with missing images, so just to recap, an image will be on the site, yet when you do an update to the site, the image disappears? Is this right? or is it that when you update the site with new products, the images does not get uploaded.

If it is the latter i would check the permission of the /acatalog/ folder, see if it set to 777 in Unix. Also try doing a "Web | Refresh Website", instead or an update.

                      Keep us posted.

                      Kind Regards

                        Hi Nadeem

Yes the first senario is right, the image is on the site, I maybe change a price on something unrelated, update the site, then images are missing.

I have just done a refresh website, and all images are showing, so I'll keep doing it that way instead of update (bit more long winded though!)

                        Thanks for your help
