can anyone tell me how to map an element to a custom variable

Here's the reply Chris Dicken added to an identical question about 6 items down today:-

The steps to making Custom Properties appear are:

1) Create the custom property in 'Advanced | Custom Properties' by clicking the little '+' and entering a name.

2) Assign a value to the custom property in the product by clicking the little '+', selecting your custom property in the drop-down list and then entering your value in the 'Value' field. If you are using Business, ensure 'Use as Customvar' is ticked.

3) Open up the product layout template that is laying out that product. This may well be the default product layout template defined in 'Design | Options | Layouts'. Just after NETQUOTEVAR:EXTINFOBUTTON type

<br>CUSTOMVAR:WHATEVER

Where WHATEVER is the 'Custom Property Name' that appears in 'Advanced | Custom Properties' tab of the product.
