Duplicating a site for use under another URL

    Hello

This may be a simple question (I hope so)

We have a couple of companies within our group of companies. I have designed and published an online store for one of the companies, but now I would like to do the same for another one. Since both companies deal in the same products (but supply different market sectors), rather than start from scratch, can I simply duplicate the existing site, change some of the graphics etc and use the same layout and upload it to a different domain?

Basically, can I use my existing site as a template for the new one? (I have Actinic Developer).

    Thanks very much.

    Yes

Choose ADVANCED > CUSTOM THEMES and save your theme then apply it to the new site(s)

Once the new site has been imported don't forget to change some of the text, keywords etc so you will get better listings on search engines and not get penalised by them thinking it is exactly the same site as the original

Okay, I'm coming back to this idea after a short break.

I have had a play with saving the site as a theme then applying it to a freshly licensed site, however this appears to lose all the actual product content and the content of the brochure pages. All it keeps is the colour scheme and the basic layout.

What I want to do is literally duplicate the entire site for use elsewhere, basically turning off the "order online" function and changing the main site logo to something else. I want to keep the products etc in the new site exactly as they are.

        Is this possible? Thanks.

          Hi,

I have had to do this and I simply take a snapshot (export) of my first site (catalog only). Create a new site (license new site). Import the snapshot and then alter the content. Caution: watch out for your network settings that they are not the same or your changes will overwrite your site #1. You must also use a different CGI script ID #.

Ah ha! This sounds logical. Thanks - I'll give it a go!

My problem is I have been asked by a client to send the product information and prices and things to another company who wish to use there catalog but do not want all the branding from the current company, is it possible to do this?

As I said, they dont want the layout or branding of the current site, they simply want to be able to use the catalog on their site.

              Cheers.

ye, tried that but when I go to import it again, it doesnt seem to setup the records correctly, the problem is they want all the product images but dont want the branding or the style of the site.

                    Any more ideas?

Recap : The client wants to be able to share the product range with other Actinic users but he does not want the site branding i.e. company logo or the templates to be copied, this means I can not do a snapshot of the site.

I have tried doing an Export but unless I am doing it wrong I cant seem to import the information in to another site.

                    O.

Ok thanks, what is the export function for then? Is it just to give you a backup of your catalog?

export is used to take a back up of your site

it is also used to transfer your site between versions

There are various export functions and I'm sure one should do what you want.

I'd assume the correct one is the hierarchical export of the catalog. What goes wrong when you try this?

when I go to import it in to another site it does not show any of the product details.
