Linking to multiple products

This may be a stupid question so apologies in advance.

I have helped to develop a jewellery site with seperate product pages.

The client wants to be able to have links to more than one matching item (e.g. earings and ring from a necklace page) from either the product or preferably the extra info page. In fact this is why he updated to version 7.

I have found the advanced link to a single product but this would not help for multiple items.
I could create matching items section pages but would not want the section to appear anywhere on the site other than from the link.

What options is there to do this other than create my own bespoke html page for each product where this is required.

Not exactly what you're after (perhaps better) but my Upsell add-on would allow small thumbnails of these additional products to be shown against the main product. Clicking these thumbnails opens a popup containing the full upsell details, including an Add to Cart button. See www.drillpine.biz/actinicstuff/ for more info and a demo.

As you say not quite what I am looking for.

I thought of an alternate route but cannot quite get it to work

I set up a CUSTOMVAR of type file and added a html reference to another page as its value for a particular product.

I then inserted this code into product description

!!<<A HREF=CUSTOMVAR:KEVEXTLINK>XXX</A>>!!

The problem I have is that when you click the link it does not execute the value of the customvar but "CUSTOMVAR:KEVEXTLINK" instead.

Any ideas why ?

Hi Kevin,

Make sure where you have put the value of the custom property, you have ticked "Use as CUSTOMVAR". Just make sure this is ticked.
