Additional info on a "custom form"

    Hi

I'm building a online store for an optician in v7. The customer needs to enter their prescription which typically consists of 8 items of data. I can produce a neat form to submit in my html authoring package with pull down menus etc to make it easier to enter numbers.
If this is an option how would I get it into the store along with the order? !!

Alternatively I did see a reply by Norman Rouxel to another thread which suggested creating a zero cost product. Is this a better way?

    Regards

If the data is a set standard you could use Components / Choices so they can use a pull down menu to select the desired option - if you require user input to complete a field there is info in the guides and in a thread about creating / adding additional fields for user input

      Hi Jont

Sounds promising... I can see how this would apply to a zero cost product called "My Prescription" for example.
Other Info would enable the user to add any extras.

Is there a way to make every customer select a "My Prescription" product? ie a compulsory purchase?

      Regards

I recently helped someone who wanted Optical Prescription data captured at checkout.

I've demo on http://www.drillpine.biz/v7metroeyew..._Products.html - just "Buy" anything then proceed through checkout where the prescription details are captured along with the customers address.

The advantage of doing it this way is that the info is held with the customers other details in the Actinic cookie and is immediately available should they return later.

It would also be possible to capture this on the Product details - either via a pop-up page, a form at the top of the page or by having the form on every product.

          Hi Norman

Data capture at checkout looks like just what is required - the cookie data retention aspect is v appealing too. I assume this would work in Catalog v7?

That example is a V7 site. And it should be fine in Catalog.

I am also looking for a solution to collect additional data re a Mobile Phone site for a client - the solution shown here (I visited the demo) for the optician looks perfect. Is this available as a download patch (paid for or otherwise). I do not see it listed on the drillpine site.
              Thanks

It's custom code that will need tweaked somewhat for each user. You can contact me by e-mail via my Forum profile.

Also my Multo-Other-Info patch (which is on www.drillpine.biz/actinicstuff/) may be useful if you want to collect that info per product.

Yes I already looked at the other info by product solution on your site - not suitable for this application

I will contact you seperatly regarding this one as suggested

                  Thanks
