    Cookies and security

I'm using the trial version of Actinic and have been working on my site for the past couple of weeks. I was having some people eyeball the site and ask me for feedback, and someone came back to me and said that using cookies for ordering and stuff is a big No-No. I bounced around on a couple other stores that I frequent and most of the ones that I could find a privacy policy on all said that they use cookies.

Are cookies that large of a security threat. He mentioned security and also brought up the fact that customer retention might be an issue if they're set up to not accept cookies.

    Thanks!

The Actinic cookie isn't used for anything sensitive.

The only time it holds personal data is if the customer clicks the "Remember me" checkbox in the checkout. Even then only Name and Address info is retained. And that's stored in your own PC; presumably anyone using that already knows your name and address.

Credit card info is never stored in cookies.

There are some White Papers on the actinic.co.uk site that may be of interest.
