Best place for images folders

Hi all,

After my previous disaster with 100's of images stored in my documents, I would like to ask "where is the very best and safest place for my 2 new folders - thumbs and popups" ?

Im assuming site 1 folder but want to be 100% certain.

Sub-folders of Site1 would be safe and sensible.
