CGI query

I'm trying to upload my site using the wizard - have uploaded Actinic before so know what the routine is. However, muy new webspace is cgi enabled and doesn't have a cgi-bin. The wizard is asking for path to cgi-bin and web root directory. Anybody help please????

Sometimes you have to browse to the top of the directory structure then browse down again.

If you say who your host is someone might have the settings.

I had to create my own folder called cgi-bin (path is /cgi-bin) to initially upload my site - (using 1and1 as host). To do this I used ftp software rather than the actinic upload. The site loaded okay from actinic after that. I think the web root directory is just the url of your site (I can't remember putting anything different here).

I don't know what 1 and 1 is.

My webspace doesn't come with a cgi-bin anymore - the whole directory is aparently cgi enabled.


So if I create a cgi-bin will that work???

That's seems unusual and sounds like a possible security nightmare. Perhaps some server gurus could comment on this.

Anyway, create a cgi-bin in the root of your site. Then in Advanced / Network setup use

PATHTOCGIBIN /cgi-bin/
FTPPATHFROMCGITOCATALOG /acatalog/

Enter "cgi-bin exploits" into Google to see why the cgi-bin should be in its own folder.

I've cracked it thanks to Susan F - I just created a cgi-bin directory and Actinic wizard found it Ok. Site up and running now.
