    Supanames e-mail problem (localhost)

    E-mail problems with Supanames.

I have been using the setting Localhost for a long time successfully but now I am receiving the problems, listed below.

    1. The shopping cart freezes when it tries to fire off receipts and order details.
    2. The contact us page freezes or at best takes 2 minutes to send e-mails.
    3. E-mails from Developer may take five attempts and take ages before they are successful.

This started about 2 months ago after upgrading from Catalog to Developer. I am not having any problems with other sites within Developer with the same settings.

Supanames say that it is a script problem. I have modified these in the past but am using the same scripts on another site which is working fine.

    Any suggestions?

    Regards

I sent an e-mail to supanames saying that my other sites with them are unaffected and all use the same settings. Supanames reply is below. Any ideas?

The only thing I can think of is that this is due to a different server configuration. I don't think there is a lot our engineers will be able to do in this case as you are attempting to use a feature that we do not offer or support. If you can get your script to use sendmail rather than SMTP then this should work for you.

      Hi Jason

Could you ask them if they can provide you with the smtp server name, like mail.domain.co.uk? There smtp server may require on that server, a username and password. You could supply these in Actinic v7.

Supanames don't offer or support smtp on their web servers (weird, but true). They try and get people to use sendmail instead.

It sounds like 'localhost' did work, but I can't offer much help if it doesn't anymore.

Oldersot is correct with the post above.

Supanames seem surprised that localhost even worked in the first place and can not explain why it is working on my other sites but not this one.

          Supanames have washed their hands.

          Kind Regards

            localhost

I've had a terrible time trying to get mail to work from my supanames domain. I found your post in a search and noticed that you used localhost, so I tried it and it works. I quite like the idea of mail::mailer module and configuring it to use SENDMAIL which is supported by supanames. According to Jason, we can install this module ourselves on our (belt & braces) value host accounts, but I have not been able to track down a suitable file. Norman R discusses mail::mailer but does not go so far as to how this file can be incorportated.
