    delivery not being charged

    Hi
I have a site that charges postage on weight. The weight is set to the product price, as some items are postage free.
I have products a,b,c which quite happily charge the customer postage if the weight is less that 700 ie £700

Client wants a big product that combines a,b and c, say called big-abc. This costs £450, so weight set to 450. Client wants it to say on the receipt that
it is made up up of a,b,c on receipt, so I set the product big-abc to have components with associated products of a,b and c and the price set to 'product price'. The system ignores the weight and does not charge the postage even though the weight is set to 450 and should be charged. If I set it to component prices, it still ignores it. Only way it charges for the postage is if I remove the components..
Can anybody see if I am doing someting daft,
    thanks

IIRC when using component prices the system uses the component weights for calculating the shipping (when using weight based shipping tables). If the components have no weight then the shipping won't be charged.

I don't know if you can assign a component a weight, in which case you could try associating the components with their underlying products. That should do it.

PS. This may all be nonsense as I'm only vaguely recalling an earlier discussion around this subject. It also sounds like you've been doing this already.

      Hi
Each of the associated products, as they exist in their own right have a weight set to them as well.
      Thanks

You can only set weights to a product itself, so if you are wanting to have weights against componants, then you would need to associate them to hidden products, and it is these hidden products that hold the weight.

Does the main product that the componants are coming off of have weights set against it?

I have removed the components associated product details and set it to benone.
Components are displaying what I type in as the html for name.
          Shippping is now working correctly.

What I don't understand is that if you set the pricing model as PRODUCT and charge by weight, what the impact of having associated products has on it with regard to shipping. Is the weight from the associated product also being added?

            Hi Jenny

Is the weight from the associated product also being added?
Yes this is the case. If you associate to a product, you will also get the associate weight as well.

Although this problem was reported a while ago I seem to have stumbled at a similar hurdle.

I have several products which have associated components, each of which carries an appropriate weight for carriage calculation. The visible product carries a 0.00g weight and the shipping method table also has a 0.00g with a £0.00 charge.

Although Actinic is correctly calculating the carriage charge - according to the weight of the selected hidden component. When I check the 'Shipping and Handling' tab in the Orders area, there are no package contents listed.

As a result when I import this order into Sage, there is no carriage charge made for this order, despite the fact that the customer has been charged and payment taken.

              Any ideas?

              Thanks

                Hi Kevin

It sounds like the carriage is being taken from the visible product, and not from the hidden product. Please make sure in the visible "Product Details", under "General", you have for "Components Details", "Sum of Component Prices", which will take the shipping details from the hidden product. It sounds like you have it set to "Product Price".
