Registration Form - Alternative to using a product

Hi,

I'd like customers to be able to complete a registration form to create an account. I've looked at the suggestion of creating a product, but don't think it's suitable.

Is there a way to create another contact us form and call it into the registration page?

If this isn't possible, can anyone recommend another way, possibly using a third party script?
