Copying from one site to another

I have a few sites that sell the same products on different domains. I tried copying a couple of sections from one site and pasting them into another. Worked OK until I tried to upload and then Developer kept on crashing. The only solution was to delete those sections and then it would upload fine. I can't really do a site import as there are components and atributes plus different prices etc.

Anyone know any work around otherwise I will just have to create from new.

    Hello Owen,

I have not tried it yet with V7 so I can't really give you a solution, but
It worked well when I was I doing this with my old V4 business version, so It should also work with V7 (I hope
Are you sure there were no duplicated products in the products you copied / pasted ? (maybe it could be the source of the problem).

There are no duplicated products as even if there were Actinic would change the product reference number.

        Hi Owen

Just licenced two site, created one section with two test products. Copyed the section to the clipboard, activated the other site, and pasted the test section. Uploaded to localhost and it works fine for me.
I wonder if you were copy a large amount of data across, with went beyond the windows resource swap files.

        Kind Regards

            Hi Owen,

The above is meant to say

which went beyond the windows resource swap files.
Basically its works fine on my pc, now if you are copying a large data and you don't have enough memory for the data to be held, Windows will generate a swap file on the PC. There are restrictions on how big the data can be, and i wonder if this is whats caused the crash.

One thing to check is try closing down your background programs. These can be seen on the right hand side of the clock. Close down Antivirus and firewall, just for testing purposes. Now go into one site, and simply copy one section with one product and paste that into another site.
If it works, then it does mean that the PC cannot cope with copying and pasting large data.

            Kind Regards

It has nothing to do with windows resources on my pc as when I am running Actinic I don't have many if any other programs running at the same time. Anyway we are only talking about a small numbner of products at a time, maybe 20-30 out of a catalogue of over 3000

What happens if you do an offline preview? Will this force Actinic to generate the correct (presumably missing) links between the main site and the pasted data?

                May be worth a try.

It doesn't work. When you click on the upload button it freezes whilst checking the list of products in the first pasted section

And if you preview one page at a time - does it still freeze? Then check that one page for errors.

                        Hi Owen

The only thing i can suggest would be to open a ticket with support regarding this. Please open a ticket on the following address: http://www.actinic.co.uk/support/register.htm. They would need to get your snapshot.

                        Kind Regards
