zero postage on a selected item

I charge a flat rate postage fee usually - is there a way to exclude certain items from postage.

So if a customer only order item 'a' they pay no postage
if they order item 'b' they pay £1
and if they order item 'a' & 'b' they pay £1

yes. ship by weight.

Item a = 0.0 kg, item b =1 kg,

set shipping table to charge for weight => 1Kg

PS. and to make life easy you can set a default product weight of 1Kg so you only need to set the weight for the free items (or vice versa).
