    Page title

We are trying to change the page meta title for our home page. When we changed it, it also changed the brochure page link hypertext. How can we change the meta page title and keep the brochure page link "Home".

    Hi Colin

Please can you give an example of where this is happening? I've not seen this on a default store?

    Kind Regards

      Page Title

Thanks for getting back, I'll try to rephrase what I'm looking for:
A Specific example is on my site www.calmncomfy.co.uk

When we pick up the site through google the home page title appears on google as "Powered by Actinic Actinic Ecommerce shopping Cart Software" We wanted it to read "Calm 'n' Comfy: Improving well being & Enjoyment of Life - Naturally" We tried to do this by changing the home page title to "Calm 'n' Comfy: Improving well being & Enjoyment of Life - Naturally".

When we uploaded there was no change to the title when we searched google but our hypertext links to the home page when in other pages of our site read "Calm 'n' Comfy: Improving well being & Enjoyment of Life - Naturally".

How can we get the desired effect on Google searches without messing up the hypertex link which need to read "Home"

In addition in our home page the top of our MSIE browser reads "Home - Microsoft internet Explorer". We want this to read "Calm 'n' Comfy: Improving well being & Enjoyment of Life - Naturally"

Can anyone show us how to do this?

The "Home" in the title will probably be coming from the index page - in the content tree click on "HOME" and you can set the page title there... the Internet Explorer or FireFox part will be added automatically depending on which browser you are using

As for Google - if your title bar is showing correctly when viewed directly it may be that Google is waiting to be updated and it is showing your old title in it's cache - this should change soon.

          Thanks.
Changing the title after clicking home in the content tree is what we had done & this is what made the top hypertext link my other brochure pages refer to the home page whith a huge link name. so we changed it back to home.
I probably didn't explain that properly but still have the problem.
Although the google search resullts now show the title of some of our other pages as we would like, google is still referring to our home page as "Powered by actinic Actinic ecommerce etc....
Anyone expert enough to know how to change the google title of our home page to something else without having a cumbersome hypertext link to home in our other brochure page.

              Page Title

This seems to be on the track I was looking for

Following that thread I tried to set a default custom property value for the entire store in 'Design | Options | Site Defaults'.

When I clicked to create a new custom property, a dialogue box replied "All predefined custom properties have been used, cannot add a new one.

Anybody know of a way around this hurdle.

If you go to Advanced | Custom Properties you can add new Customvars

                  Hi
                  Thanks for your advice.
I have tried a few different approaches to this solution but am still not able to successfully set up a default page title for the home brochure pages. Could you be kind & patient enough to give more detailed instructions on the exact steps I must take to achieve this?

                  Cheers

In Advanced | Custom Properties click on the plus + sign to add a new line. Type a name for the customvar in the box on the left, and make sure it is type text. The right hand column should show the same name as you entered on the left. Click OK.

Go to Design | Options and on the site defaults tab, click on the plus + to add a new line. Click in the left hand column and select the customvar name you just created. Click in the right hand column and type in the title you want to have on your home page. Click OK.

Now open Act_BrochurePrimary.html template and find

                    <TITLE>NETQUOTEVAR:PAGETITLE</TITLE>

                    replace this with

                    <TITLE>CUSTOMVAR:MYPAGETITLE <!-- NETQUOTEVAR:PAGETITLE --></TITLE>

putting the name of the customvar in place of MYPAGETITLE.

Save the template - remember to (save as - all files) if using notepad.

That's it - done. Now if you need to use a longer title on another page, you can go to the properties tab on that page, click on the plus and add a new line. Select the customvar again and type the expanded title in the right column. Find the main layout template for the page, make a copy of it to a new name, make the same changes to the newly named template, then select that template as main layout for the page(s) you want to add extended titles to.

I hope this is clear enough, just shout if it is not.
