    Web page height rather long

    Hi

After the upgrade from V6 to V7, I notice that each of my web pages have several pages height, even when there is no content.

If you take a look at my one of my pages http://www.fidelitydj .co.uk/acatalog/FDJ224.html it may be a little clearer (note that there is no gap after the dj!!)

Any ideas on what could cause this. My pages seem to take an age to load too.

    Thanks

    Steven

I've no idea why it's doing this but it is strange.

IE takes a long time to render the page but then says 'done'.

Firefox on the other hand, renders the page quickly but then says 'waiting for fidelitydj.co.uk....' forever.

I'm still using V6, but didn't actinic change some of the javascript files in V7 ? You might want to check these have been updated and are being referenced correctly.

      Hiya Steven

I popped the source code of the page into Dreamweaver and it flagged up 2 tags that are misplaced (overlapping other tags).

Half way along line 6 in the page's code is an closing /DIV tag, and on line 42 is a closing /TD tag. These are both undoubtedly causing problems.

(Note that these line numbers pertain to the online source code, and will be different when you uncompress the HTML)

        Hi

I have been looking at both of these but I cannot see why they would cause the page to extend beyond the content. This was fine with v6 and has only started with the use of v7.

          Hi Steven

Its a very strange issue, i can't see why it taking so long. Have you added anything when you upgraded to version 7? For example any new javascript codes?

          Kind Regards

            Hi Nadeem

No, nothing new. I have checked in IE and Firefox but both the same.

The page takes an age to load now too.

I reckon the problem is your menu system. I can't say exactly what it is as your code is compacted and its a nightmare to debug.

But it appears that you have a menu up in the top left, the Browse by Artist is very long indeed. I reckon the page is expanding to fit all the options in this section, this is also why the page takes ages to load there are simply to many sections for the js to handle quickly

Try removing the menu to see if it makes a diiference or mark the Browse by Artist section as deleted and test.

I have hacked the code about and got the page to display without the big gap at the base, but I can't say for sure exactly which piece of js it is.

                Hi Jo

Tonight I have changed my nav bar so that 'Home | New Releases | Info' etc is text rather than images. But, the original Norcascade code is there and I assume is still read when opened and hence the delay as you suspect.

I loved the drop down box menu, but I have created a product per page and the menu no longer is a functionally good thing, hence I have set it to New Releases instead.

I will strip out the Norcascade code tomorrow, its on my home page too so it should be a quick indication if that is indeed the problem. A sad farewell!!

(On the subject of 1 product per page, I am pretty excited about that and hope that I can get some better listings on Google etc. My page title, content, keywords and description are now all based around the actual product, so it will be interesting to see after Google takes another look at my site.)

                Thanks for the advice

                Steven
