Error: order number lock file (%s)

Over the past few days we receive this message when a customer tries to place an order on our online shop:

Following error has been displayed to a customer: An error occurred while creating the order number lock file (%s). The error was %s. Actinic Ecommerce can not create a unique order number and can not continue. Please contact us directly with your order.

Has anybody had this before? And know of a way to fix it?

Entering customer address details is fine, however we use Worldpay to process the customer payment. And on clicking the 'next' button to move on to the payment options, this is when the error accours. Is it an Actinic error or because it is having problems connecting to Worldpay?

    website is: www.ComicDomain.co.uk

We had exact same problem on Saturday, only we don't use Worldpay - we download and process payment manually.

Go to Help|Troubleshooting|Query Order Number in Actinic.
    If the following message displays

"Unable to create a copy of the order lock file.
    Possible Cause:
The lock files on the server are damaged
Resolution: Try manually remove the filesThe error was: 58416
    Command: getordernum Filename: "

then you have to access your webserver via FTP and locate and delete the following files:

    orderlock.num
    backup.num

That should sort out the problem.

Seems strange, though, that in 5 years using Actinic this is the first time I've encountered this problem, and someone else reports the same problem around the same time. Anyone have any ideas what could cause this?

      Hi Brian,

      IT WORKED!!

Thanks very much for that! - we've also been using Actinic for the past 5 years along with our host at Drummond Internet.

We tried a full refresh, deleting files and another full refresh but nothing semed to help at all. After deleting those two files, everything seems to be working fine again.

Weird coincidence maybe? We've been having a handful of 'minor' problems with other bits and pieces that we use online since the 1st of June - when for no reason at all, things just started to go wrong - don't know why - but this was one of the most vexing problems.

so a big thank you again!

Also another little hiccup that went away since Brian pointed out the fix above, was that on our homepage we have links which take you directly to the specific item in the list. When the site wasn't working nor were those links - we thought it was something located in the CGI bin.

However since deleting those two files above...the links are working fine!

Now that is a coincidence! - we use Drummond too. We had also experienced problems with scripts not running earlier on Saturday, and had done a full refresh. After this I ran a test order and that's when the Order Lock problem came up. Maybe the problem had something to do with them. I'll certainly be following this up with them.
