Virus Wiped my .MDB file, no backups, where do i stand?

    Hi Guys

Thanks for your help i found the reason i was getting the "Database File Cannot Be Found" error, that was because there was no database in my site 1 dir We have had problems with lots of viruses and it seems that one of them has targeted .MDB files on the system for some reason ! This means that i do not have my settings and past orders. As i use Top2Toe and norcat i can rebuild the catalog but i have no idea what im doing when it comes to settings or how to get it like it was? Is there any way that there is something on the sites FTP server that would help me? Like a settings or database file or something? I am in desporite need of help rite now if any one knows of anything. Even if it recovers only part of the info it will be good for me. I still have the whole site 1 folder but the ActinicCatalog.mdb file is misssing, i belive this is the main config file.

I do not know what to do?

    Thanks

The actinic catalog database isn't just the configuration file it is everything to do with the content of the site (i.e. products, prices, catalog tree, etc) and all the order data.

The only thing not contained in the database is the layout templates, the actinic executable and of course the perl scripts.

Your only hope that comes to mind is to try and recover the database file using a file recovery tool. I wouldn't be too hopeful though.

Have you got a copy of previous.mdb or backup.mdb you could use the latest version of one of these.

Otherwise as Mike says you are stuffed - you can download your product pages from www to help you regenerate product info, but other than that is a rebuild.

However before you rebuild Actinic do this ( I assume Win XP SP2)

1 implement a backup system for your PC, use XP's Backup program if nothing else is available
2 install Norton anti virus with Live Update and ensure daily/weekly scans of your PC
      3 install XP's firewall
      4 install Spybot and Adaware
5 become neurotic about backing up your PC

Now you can turn your attention to Catalog

Um, I wouldn't bother with the Windows XP firewall (as it's pap). If anyone's after a firewall, no-one should be that desperate! There's plenty of free firewall programs out there that'll do a better job.

Try www.download.com. Sygate's firewall and Zonealarm aint half bad.

        My two penneth anyway.

Dave - out of interest what was the name of the virus which just targetted the database files?

I'm in Turkey right now but may have a an old version of your site - probably V5 though. If I find a copy I'll see if I can update it to V7 as this will get you most of your look and feel back.

Wow thanks for all the help guys. Unfortunatly I do not have a back up of the database file as the virus has deleted all of the MDB files from my computer, from now on i will be backing up on to CD and FTP ! We had technicians in to sort out the virus problem so they removed it whithout giving me any details and installed symantec corp. Norman any thing you could do would be great! Im not 100 % sure what you mean but would apreciate anything yo could do for me ! My address is dave@treds.co.uk. I look forward to hearing from you soon.

                A Thought?

                Hi again guys

ive had a thought! We are getting a new site designed for us as we speak, we are switching over to the RMS system in the next month, so really i only need to beable to collect orders from the site, so uploading isnt a problem, we will have to go whithout uploading new stock, a problem with this would be false stock levels but thats something we may have to live with. Is there a way i can download the orders without it effecting the site its self? This afternoon i will be goin through the settings and try and get it downloading! I hope it works.

                Thank you

                Dave

Ok i gave that a go, when i try to download it says that it reccomends that i upload before i download! WHich i obviously cannot do, i have tried to download and it says that the user / pass does not match what is on the server. I have attatched a screen shot of the error i am getting.

                  Thanks Again

                    Dave,

You might want to blank out your Authorisation key from that image!!

I would ask one of the administrators to remove the image Dave

                          Hi there

Whenever you install the new software, Actinic wants to update your site. Its sounds like your username and password as changed via "Housekeeping | Security". When you install Actinic again, these changes, and so does the encryption key. Did Norman give you the database? I believe the username and password are held in the database, so it may be an idea to get the old v5 database.

                          Kind Regards

                              Hi again guys

Ive tried the MDB file from Norman ( THANKS ! ) and followed his instructions, i have come across the following errors, Erri have named the errors in the order which they are displayed, when i click ok to error 4 the upload process terminates. Sorry to keep asking for help but i dont know much about Actinic.

                              Thanks again
