Need a few tips with SEO

Could someone please visit www.exotic-gifts.co.uk and give me constructive critisism on why its not doing so well on the old search engine rankings, and why only the home page seems to be listed in google.

Any help would be greatfully taken on board.

I think you should also post this in any other business where site critiques seem to attrect a greater reaction.

My intitial thought though is that with a name like exotic gifts you are going to have problems. I would imagine the word exotic is used on a lot of adult sites so you will need to be careful with it, you may get penalised but I don't know. I recently read a posting on another forum which said 'help my client has a rude sounding surname' so words can be an issue. And gifts is fairly common I imagine.
Try making your title exotic gifts then list three major groups of products. I am now, Compendia - board games, jigsaw puzzles, playing cards and dominoes. You might do something similar, though I will freely admit that where I rank highly is for my individual products.

I have a site above my catalogue which enables me to put lots of links into pages deep in my catalogue. I think that getting links into different pages in your site will help google find them. Try finding some specialist directories and submitting actual sales pages, rather than your home page, that might help.

I am firmly in the 'its an art, not a science' camp by the way.

Are you advertising in google adwords?
Are you listed by all your suppliers, in which case you could ask the friendly ones to link straight to your catalogue pages.

There are lots of advice on the actinic forums. To get you going though, I'd advise you to get some links to your website. Google is showing you as a PR=0 and no backlinks to your home page.

The easiest way to get started on links is to submit your site to directories like dmoz and yahoo. There are others too, but these are the main ones.
