This is really weird, the site has been working fine for many months and now if I change anything in the product descriptions it does not update them when I update the website. I have even completely refreshed the website as still no new pages. I have checked the permission son the actalog folder and cgi-bin and they seem ok. There are no errors reported when im updating but it wont include the new pages. Any ideas? Please

Hi Aby,
I had a similar experience where one of my files refused to update even though I checked it using ftp to see that the byte count tallied both locally and then on the server. I could see the correct file in my acatalog directory but it was as if the server hadn't rolled forward to the new file. I completely deleted the file and ftp'd it back but it still took about 20 mins before I could see the new file when checking with my browser. If you have something like Wyse ftp you could also check the byte count both ends to ensure that your new files are in position. When you do a snapshot are any errors reported?
I'm not an expert so can't offer much advice.
Best of luck.

Thanks for the advice delboy, I have checked it on the ftp and the byte count does not match up. I did a test using advanced>network setup>test and its telling me
"Actinic Ecommerce received an request forbidden error from the web server. The server is not properly configured to allow Actinic Ecommerce to run CGI scripts from the cgi-bin. Run Web | Configure Web Site Details... to review your web site configuration."
I have checked the cgi-bin permissions and it on 777. It also says
"The test script failed to execute on the web server. The error could be caused by several things. Check the path to the Perl shell, the CGI script extension, the path to CGI-BIN, and the CGI-BIN URL. This error could also occur if your web site is out of disk space or your web server is not configured to accept POSTs to CGI scripts."
I have not changed the path to perl for the past few years and it’s been working ok. I’m at a loss as this is way beyond my understanding!

There have been many reports of web hosts 'upgrading' their servers and causing ownership problems with the cgi-bin files. Ask your host if they changed anything recently. Hmm, your setting of 777 would normally overcome the ownership issue - still, the host is the first step.Bill

I give up! I actually spent ages on the phone with them and email and they insist I changed something, which I haven’t. I think I found out the problem, when I view the pages with a secure connection it does not show me the updated page but the insecure version does. Is that the same for you alex? If so then it may be a secure server problem which may account for the execute CGI script error ??? Is your cgi-bin at 777 do you think its worth changing the permissions for the pl and pm extensions?

I have no clue, all I know is last week all was dandy and now the CGI script for the checkout on the secure server no longer executes.
Try adding products from the below link and then go checkout, you'll see what I mean:

I think its a secure server problem, i've tried to add products in your site and does come up with an error. I get the same error when I try and add products from an unsecured page. Ring 0870 7550009 and see if you can get any sense out of them and then tell me!
The only other thing it could be is that they changed ther permissions on the secure scripts as im getting the following error when I do the test in the netwrok settings????
"Error 403: Permission denied/HTAccess Error
Please refer to the setup and troubleshooting guides

Aby / Alex,
Try and import a snapshot you did perhaps a week or so ago and then refresh your sites. I don't know if this issue is connected but I have just had another problem come back which I also thought was caused by my host, but which I now believe is on my PC. See a thread I've just started http://community.actinic.com/showthread.php?t=14477

ok when testing in Advanced> Network Setup here are the errors I get:
Actinic Ecommerce is not able to run the CGI scripts on the server. It appears as if the scripts are not installed. The most likely cause is that you have an incorrect CGI-BIN URL. If you've never uploaded the site, then you should do it before a download of orders. If you've uploaded the site ever, then Run Web | Configure Web Site Details... to review your web site configuration.
and then
The web server returned error code 404 - Requested URL not found. This means Actinic Ecommerce can not execute the CGI scripts on your web site. Run Web | Configure Web Site Details... to check the web setup.
I have changed nothing so it must be a host thing?!

Alex,
I use 1and1 for hosting. Early this morning I was convinced my problem was on the server, I even changed all CGI file properties to 777 but it made no difference. I'm pretty sure something in my mdb file causes my problem.
I thought by doing a snapshot I was backing up my html files (which normally is true) but if I can't recover due to some mdb problem then I'll stop using snapshot as my backup routine. I'll simply do a Site1 directory copy to my external USB Hard Drive. Oops, getting off the track, sorry.
I shall watch the thread and see how you get on.
