Sorry, I thought that I had replied to this a day or two ago.

The check box is only used to disable external linking, to link a product to external data you have to add it to your external datasource and refresh external links (F5), then providing you have checked the option called 'Link All Products to External Data if Available' they will automatically link to existing products with the same product reference. Products that do not match an existing products are put into the section called 'unallocated external products' and you then drag and drop them into the appropriate sections.

      You did, thankyou Jan.
Refreshing the links doesn't work. Just a bit confused now, as to how I am supposed to add new product?

When a new product is added to my external data, will it automatically create a product in Actinic?

        Hi Guy

When a new product is added to my external data, will it automatically create a product in Actinic?
You should see a new product in the 'Unallocated external products' which you need to drag and drop in the section you want.

        Kind Regards

          Sort of.

When you add a new product as a record in your external data source, it will appear in Actinic within the 'Unallocated External Products' section at the bottom of the content tree. If you don't see any products there, press 'F5' and check for a little '+' next to the icon which you might need to click to expand this. They appear with a grey icon.

These products are not actually 'in the store' yet. You need to drag and drop them into a section in order to actually make them visible.

If you are still having issues, I suggest registering an email support question at http://www.actinic.co.uk/support/register.htm and then you can send them your snapshot and file for them to check.

              Enable Updates to External Data

If you go to the Main Help menu, and in the Search tab, type in " Preparing for Linking", you would see the details for this against Note 7:
If the external file is an SQL database, you will also need to define a 'Primary Key' field for your data, or else Actinic will not be able to create the external link properly. You can use your 'Product Reference' column as your primary key if no other field is available.

This fixed my problem and all seems to be working now
