Allowing an item to be ordered by itself only

Hi,
I want to offer a sort of monthly product subscription pack which has a separate lower delivery charge. I want the customer to be able to purchase only this item by itself not with other items and set the lower shipping charge for this item. Is there a way to do this?

Do you really want to prevent people buying other items from you?

I use shipping by weight and set the weight of the promotional item underweight and set the shipping charges accordingly - if someone then wants to buy other items it tips the combined weight into the next shipping band and the charges go up accordingly.
