In the content tree under HOME (index.html) have you tried unchecking the "Use as website hompage" box?

You can also add external files advanced | additional files so Actinic uploads the index.html page and associated images during an upload.

If you don't want any of the Actinic Brochure pages then simply delete the entire Brochure set (everything off the little house icon) from the Contenet tree.

If you do want Brochure pages then rename the home one (little house icon) (via Page Filename) to be something other than index.html (and uncheck the Use as website hompage box) so it won't overwrite your external page.

Sorry to butt in, but this is on my list of things to do

I also have a custom index.html, so I have unticked as suggested.

        I now have this error

Some duplicate HTML file names have been found and therefore the generation cannot continue.

The following brochure pages have the same page file name as other generated pages:
        Brochure page Home: page: index.html
        Thanks

        Mick

As is usual, I must have done it wrong.

I renamed to index1.html, and unticked use as home page.

Everthing worked perfectly apart from the home button within the shop was linked to the renamed index page

Set the page name manually in Design | Options | Misc | Home page link
