Two tier delivery charges

I am using Actinic business v7

I want to have a two tier delivery charge on my website.

£2 delivery if the order is for nothing but cables.

£5 delivery if the order contains at least one item that is not a cable.

Any ideas ?

You could use shipping by weight and set the cables at say 0.01kg and everything else at say 1000kg - set the shipping tables accordingly so people would have to buy an awful lot of cables to get to the 1000kg break point. Be wary if you ship internationally or have very heavy items which may require additional postage costs.

Assign a weight to each product eg: cables =1 unit, non-cables = 5000 units.

Set shipping at £2 for up to 4999 units and £5 for 5000+.

So a customer can order up to 4999 cables before shipping jumps to £5, but as soon as they order a non-cable it goes straight to £5 regardless of whether there's cables or not.

Works really well for us as we assign a 'virtual weight to all our products so light yet bulky products have a higher shipping charge.

I forgot to say thanks - so - thanks guys.

I achieved the 2 tier system by making actinic charge :-
- £5 for products with unspecified weights (eg defaulting to 10Kg)
- £2 for products with 0Kg weights

This might allow me a 3rd tier (I haven't bothered trying yet) where I charge £4 (for example) for products up to 10Kg.
If I set the weight of a product to 0.01Kg then ordering 1 would auto break the £2 band, but a customer would have to order 1000 to get into the £5 band.

With careful product weight planning you can set as many price breaks as you need - I currently work with about 7 prices points by setting the product weight accordingly - I often use this as a workaround to offer free shipping on promo items by setting the individual product weights as necessary
