If it's getting part way through and then stopping it sounds like an ftp problem. This could be down to your firewall interfering with ftp, is there a box in the network settings called 'use passive ftp' in V5? ( I can't remember if it's there or not, I think it may be) If it's there, try ticking the box and then doing an update.
