    Email Setup Problems

    Hi,

I have a problem with setting up my email details in Actinic v.7. I have our site hosted on 1and1.co.uk and have an 'orders@.....co.uk' address set up that works fine through Outlook Express. When I try to put the details into Actinic's 'Web Settings' everything works fine until I get to the Email Settings screen, I input my data :

    - Yes, Send me an Email when a New Order arrives [ YES ]
    - Send the Public Customer an Email when placing an Order [ YES ]
    - My Email address : orders@....co.uk
    - SMTP Server : auth.smtp.1and1.co.uk
    - Username and Password Required [ YES ]
    - Username : my username
    - Password : my password

This doesn't work, I get an error message stating :

' The Specified Server does not appear to be running a Mail Server or the Server is down. Connection refused. '

The info I input above is taken from my usual 'orders@...co.uk' account details from Outlook Express and also the 1and1.co.uk website. I have even phoned tech support at 1and1 and they said nothing was wrong and to check out Actinic's Support.

This is very worrying because the site is nearly finished for a client and I need to have a way of knowing when orders arrive. Can anyone help?

In advanced / network setup try using ' localhost ' as your SMTP server and uncheck username and password, might work if not get back to 1and1.

I also wondered if there was anyone who could help me set up the site so that my client will get an email of every order? We plan to use Barclays EPDQ for Credit Card Processing ( see other thread! ) - Can install Actinic twice???

I want to use the my copy of Actinic set up on their computer to download orders onto, and use the same copy to update the site on my computer - is this possible? If not how should I work around this, we are at other ends of the country and I need some way to get the orders emailed to them ( after payment processing ) but still allow myself to edit the catalog and upload it...

Try auth.smtp.oneandone.co.uk instead of auth.smtp.1and1.co.uk. This works fine for me (Business / Linux) without needing Authentication.

Are you getting this when you run test network settings? if so try uploading the site and using the actinic contact form, see if it works when online, might be a local testing issue??

Failing that log a support ticket with support.

The silly answer, sorry, look for a new host that is a little more helpful and actinic friendly.

              thats it from me ;-)

@Prosite - Sorry, I can't just let that go. I think your post is inappropriate. I and many others run 1and1 successfully. Initially, I had problems with the mail settings, and Actinic would report that the smtp settings were not correct, but I and customers did still receive the required emails. When I switched over to Norman's suggestion of clearing the authentication box with auth.smtp.oneandone.co.uk as the smtp setting, Actinic accepted that and network settings resolved for the first time.

                @PlanetGroup
I have seen a variety of settings (perhaps five or six) that different people have had success with - a forum search for network settings should bring them all up. Just try one by one till you find which one works for you. One will, I am certain of that.
