    Catastrophic Site Failure With Snapshot -//- Help!

    Hello,

    I have been developing a website using actinic. I've spent quite sometime on it and it was pretty much 98% complete when I decided I would create a snapshot so I could install it on a computer at work.

    Here is the site as it was last uploaded (b4 the snapshot):Note: Ive uploaded since this post - .gif posted further down.

    www.chinalifeweb.com/acatalog/

    Here is a screenshot of the site I am now confronted with - at work after installing actinic and importing the snapshot:

    http://www.chinalifeweb.com/error.gif

    I am so pissed off because I fear I may now have to start all over again. I no longer have the actinic install at home that uploaded the site you see live at that url.

    Im also baffled as to why its messed up. If you look at the jpg you can see that there are two quick search sections!!! What?? I checked my templates and they have no duplicates. All is exsactly as it was. And where did all the products go.. whats with this '. Value' in its place?

    My template file looks like this.

    HTML Code:
    <html>
    <head>
       <TITLE>
       NETQUOTEVAR:PAGETITLE
       </TITLE>

    Hmmmmm. did you create a theme of your design on the pc which you developed it on?

    Also, are you sure that you do not have it on the machine at home still, i.e. the folders still there even if uninstalled (possibly)?

    Looks like the customization that you did was not recognised by the snapshot, so you might have something called NOT_CATALOG in your destination machines site1 folder, which may contain all of the missing files.

    Hope the suggestions help, best of luck.

      I have the original Site 1 folder. That is all I have from the development computer.

      As for creating a theme - I created a new template and applied it to my site.

      There are no missing files. The template file is in there and its html was as it was when it was working correctly. Yet still there are abnormalities showing that do not correspond with the html template, and therefore a complete mystery. What is actinic doing to my site!? Its completly buggerd it up. I create a site and then export it for use and its a mess. Perhaps someone could explain what a snapshot is supposed to do. Because if this snapshot was indeed meant to save everything as it was then I am incredibly disapointed with its function and through my own experiences could well pronounce it useless.

        Can any body here even come up with a guess as to how the template html shown above could come up with the gif shown above? The template could be used fine before... now no products and two search boxs!?

        Im so stuck its unbeleivable. Even when I re-installed actinic and applied the template to the default load up exampe site I got the exsact same result.

        How did the template work before?

          If I understand you correctly, the existing site was put together using a standard Actinic template, and then you creatred a new template of your own that you wish to use instead. To put it back as it was before, you need to reselect the base template that you started out with.

          The snapshot file is actually a standard zip file with a different extension. Rename yourfile.acd to yourfile.zip and you can open it with winzip or whatever and look at the individual template files one at a time to see what is going wrong.

            Matthew,

            If you still have a copy of site.1 as it existed after your changes, then the fix is easy peasy.

            Just make a copy of site.1 from your home computer onto disk and replace the site.1 on your work computer with that copy.

            Have you uninstalled Actinic from your home computer? You can run it on two machines without violating the licence terms. It's only one website that can be uploaded.

              Magical wonders - You would think so wouldnt you!!!! I replaced the site one folder but I get exsactly the same results!! This is why im so baffled by it all.

              wjcampee - I did think it was something to do with the base template. However I cant remeber which template I used as base. Is there a way I can find out? The acd to zip thing is a usefull peice of knowledge. Thanks for that. If I look through it would there be clues as to what base template I was using before?

                I assume you're using the same version software as you were before? Did you upgrade as some point? Are you still trying to get it sorted on your work computer, or have you tried backtracking on your home kit?

                  The second quicksearch feild you can see on the right halfway down tha page (http://www.chinalifeweb.com/error.gif). How do I remove it? Where is the code that generates it? Its not in the promary template thats for sure!

                    If you uncompact the code (Design/Options/Misc) and then take another look at the code, you should see where this is getting generated from.

                      Yes the same version of software. My previous pc at home no longer exsists. All I have is my snapshot and back up site 1 folder!

                      I've uncompacted the code and getting some interesting results... bb

                        ok this is what happend:

                        www.chinalifeweb.com/acatalog/

                        And here is a screenshot of how it should be for reference:

                        www.chinalifeweb.com/howitwas.gif

                        Now it seems to me that there are two competing templates involved. I dont understand why as I have selected my own in Design->Options->Layouts.

                        The conflicting template seems to be that of actinics - Curves.

                        How do I go about getting things back to how they where and stop actinic adding its own template code to my template?

                        Thanks for that tip magical. I finaly feel an element of progress. I just hope I can get things back to how they where. And soon! Tis a right cuffufle

                          Curves is one of the Actinic themes from "Specific Designs" that I assume you have originally selected when first starting your store.

                          Do you recall which templates you have worked on apart from Act_primary? Did you rename them?

                          What you could try as long as you have the original Site.1 safe on a disk is go into Design/Themes and select Curves. This will put the original templates back in place. Then copy over the various templates you have edited from your site.1 copy.

                          This should get the site back to how it was.

                            There are no images on your error site. Have all the images together with the javascript files actinincore, actinicextras, and sectiontree been copied to your new computer setup.

                              Hi Chris - The error screenshot does not have the images because that is a screenshot of the local preview. The images are stored on the server so they would not appear untill the site has been uploaded. All the files have indeed been copied across.
