    Search Page Woe!

    Hello, all!

I've just encountered another annoying "bug" in the Search engine that I cannot explain!
    1. I go to the search page and enter a fake search word - like "XXX"
    2. Actinic reports "No matching products were found."
    3. It adds, "Please wait for your browser to forward you to the next page or click here."

If you wait, the system just bounces you back to the Seach page again! If you click the link it also takes you back to the Search page!

    What's going on?

Note: In my experience the Search page is a notorious cul-de-sac simply because it does not generate any of the standard navigation links. This makes it very difficult to leave the page - unless you employ an exit link which has been hard-coded into the Search templates.

Isn't that how it meant to happen? If the computer can not find what you specified then it must assume you want to try and find something else... or rectify the spelling etc. The "click here" is in case you have set a long bounce delay of if the page does not forward on due to some firewall setting or server error etc.

Getting out of the cul-de-sac should not be difficult as the standard navigation should still be there... which theme are you using?

I believe this is just a continuation of the phenomena you described in http://community.actinic.com/showthread.php?t=14677

Did you raise an email ticket? I know I did not.

        Jont -

The Search page is dynamic - therefore it does not generate links in the normal manner. It does not display any of the links from the "Act_navigationitem.html" template. Even if you add links manually - using NETQUOTEVAR:NAVs - they malfunction! That's why I describe the Search page as a cul-de-sac.

PS. Wjcampbe, no I have not yet raised an email ticket. I assumed I would find an answer to my question here!

Me too! The thing is, we would not need to do this if the problem were fixed in Actinic. There is a clear hole in the system that needs to be addressed.

PS. The "no-links" problem occurs of the Shopping Cart page.

                  Update.

I have had three emails from support on 19th, 21st and 22nd. They now confirm they have been able to replicate the problem. Nothing recent. Will post here when they respond again.

Well done! I think we're finally getting somewhere. Thanks, again, for putting things in motion.
