    Components on hidden products

    Hi Folks!
If I have a product thats hidden on the site but is still orderable online, would any componets under it be picked up if the hidden product is selected as a component on a unhidden product???
Is there anyway to do this?

    Thanks.

    Hi Mark

I will doubt this will work, Normally you have a hidden product for stocking monitoring choices. If the hidden product had an optional component, then it will not work.

    Kind Regards

      Hi,

This thread is quite interesting as I've just stumbled on the same problem.

I have a product that is supplied with an 'optional' accessory. If the customer chooses to discard the accessory, then I must reduce the cost of the product by the cost of the accessory.

I've tried to tackle this in several different ways but it seems Actinic cannot cope with such a simply request.

If anyone know how this can be acheived, without creating multiple products, I'd be very interested to hear their ideas.

Else, this is something for the Version 8 wishlist I think!

      Thanks

Ok, I think Ive got round it.
Ive created a 'dead_product' template that actually allows a product to be 'unhidden' (so if its a component in another product hopefully any other components attached will be selected as well) but it does not display any product information, so it looks like a hidden product.
Ive yet to test this, Im doing that this afternoon.
Does anyone think this will have any adverse implications?

In theory that make sense and is a good idea - let all know if it works.

Depending on how you set up your dead_product template Actinic may shout about missing NQV's etc if these are deleted out but these may be ignorable during upload - you could try commenting out the NQV's from the template also to the same effect. Obviously at some point on the site there will be a section or page with invisible products that may look funny.

Wonder if the varoius script files will pick up the product details if they are in effect "missing"?? That may cause the thing to fall down but depends on which order Actinic compiles everything. Probably worth trying it on 1 product in a test area and seeing how it goes.

Booo! Didnt work, no problem in picking up the 'hidden' product as a component, but it didnt manage to include the component attached to it.
Back to the drawing board Im afraid...
