Hosting settings in v.7 - problems

Hi there - i've recently published in the network/configuration forum with our problem but without any luck so far. As the problem i'm encountering is within Version 7 i thought i'd add a post here to increase exposure. We're having trouble publishing files / connecting to host.

Sometimes, when we refresh/update website, the acatalog folder is being made outside of the public_html folder, and then sometimes it is being made within cgi-bin which is also wrong. Then when we modify the settings again we get ftp error messages. We just cant upload correctly after trying many different settings variations. We've been told we must publish to the public_html folder on our server.

We then entered the following details as recommended by DataFlame, the host:

    Catalog URL: http://www.website.co.uk/acatalog/

    CGI-BIN URL: http://www.website.co.uk/cgi-bin/

Codebase: ./ (this wasnt recommend by DataFlame - its there by default by Actinic)

Path From CGI-BIN to acatalog Directory: ../acatalog/

    Path to CGI-BIN: /cgi-bin/

Path From CGI-BIN to acatalog Directory as Viewed by the FTP Server: ../acatalog/

Path to the Perl Shell: /usr/bin/perl

When we test these settings we get the following error message:

Unable to move to the cgi-bin directory "/cgi-bin/" on the FTP server.
The specified directory does not exist or you do not have access to the directory.

So still no joy. Maybe the codebase is wrong - but they didnt specify a setting for this. Or something else, but it definately isnt working.

    Any help would be great.

I know it may sound obvious but does the cgi-bin directory actually exist on the site? I have set up several where I have had to FTP onto the site to create a directory called cgi-bin as it does not exist and then upload via Actinic. Worth checking.

If it is there are the permissions set correctly to enable writing? Again check using a FTP tool and see what the permissions are set to

There is a CGI-BIN found within the Public_Html folder on the server - and from checking using SmartFTP the CHMOD settings are 755. (i did try 777 at one point but that didnt work either).

It's so bizarre why i cant get anything to publish in the correct space.

The Public_Html folder is that above www or beneath?

Most will go Public_Html/www in which case try creating a cgi-bin in Public_Html/www/cgi-bin/

          Hi Jont

So far the www folder has not been touched - and nothing has been written to it. In fact, we didnt notice it until you told us about it!

From looking at the whole folder structure on the host, its setup is as follows: 1) .neomail 2) .spamassasin 3) .sqmaildata 4) .trash 5) etc 6) mail 7) pdt 8) public_ftp 9) public_html 10) tmp 11) www

What do you suggest we action with the www folder?

From looking in the www folder there is a cgi-bin folder present. In fact the contents is exactly indentical.

if there is a cgi-bin folder sitting inside the www folder then try the network settings as:

            path to cgi-bin = /www/cgi-bin/

path from cgi-bin from acatalog as viewed by FTP server = /www/acatalog/

make sure the cgi-bin inside www folder is writeable before the upload

              Do you suggest this:

              Catalog URL: http://www.website.co.uk/acatalog/

              CGI-BIN URL: http://www.website.co.uk/cgi-bin/

              Codebase: ./

Path From CGI-BIN to acatalog Directory: ../acatalog/

              Path to CGI-BIN: /www/cgi-bin/

Path From CGI-BIN to acatalog Directory as Viewed by the FTP Server: /www/acatalog/

Path to the Perl Shell: /usr/bin/perl

With the WWW's CGI-BIN folder set to 755 chmod?

looks OK - try the settings and fingers crossed the servers are happy with them

                      Hi

I've just changed my host to dataflame & appear to be having the same problems you did - but can't quite get it to work - would you be able to either copy your ompplete network connection settings here - or export a file copy of the settings

                      any help appreciated

                      Nick
